Mac DeMarco — This Old Dog (2017) 🐕📼

Released in 2017, This Old Dog marked a more intimate and reflective chapter for Mac DeMarco. Moving away from some of the hazy slacker-rock sound of his earlier records, Mac leaned into warm synths, acoustic guitars and stripped-back production.

Much of the album revolves around family, getting older, love and Mac’s complicated relationship with his father, giving songs like My Old Man, This Old Dog and Watching Him Fade Away a bittersweet weight beneath their laid-back sound.

Recorded largely by Mac himself after moving from New York to Los Angeles, the album feels almost homemade — simple drum machines, soft guitars and imperfections left intact.
