DONT BE DUMB
I'll admit from the beginning that I might be biased with this one.
I'm a huge rap fan, and one of the things I've always loved about A$AP Rocky is his willingness to experiment. TESTING already showed how far he was willing to push his sound, and Don't Be Dumb feels like another reminder that Rocky has never been interested in making the safest version of a rap album.

And I'm very happy to say: I love this album.
Probably 90% of the record could go straight into my playlists. That's rare. There are a few moments that take me out of it purely because of personal taste, but I'm almost immediately pulled back in by something else.
The production is constantly changing. Rocky moves between psychedelic, distorted, atmospheric and more traditional hip-hop sounds without losing what makes him sound like Rocky.
But I have to give particular attention to Punk Rocky.
I absolutely love this track. It's exactly the kind of Rocky I want to hear — weird, melodic, slightly rough around the edges and completely comfortable stepping outside what people expect a rap record to sound like.
And listening on cassette makes this album even better.
The mix translates beautifully to tape. The saturation, bass, textures and slightly dirty edges of the production work incredibly well with the format. This isn't just an album I wanted on cassette because I collect tapes — it's one I genuinely enjoy hearing on cassette.
Maybe my rating is influenced by how much I already love this kind of experimental rap.
But isn't that the whole point of rating music?
Don't Be Dumb gives me almost everything I want from a modern Rocky album: experimentation, personality, great production and, most importantly, songs I actually want to come back to.
Rocky keeps reminding me that rap doesn't have to stay inside one box.
And that's exactly why I'm such a fan.
Particular attention: Punk Rocky
Final verdict: 9.2/10
For fans of: experimental hip-hop, psychedelic production, TESTING, unconventional rap and albums that sound even better with a little analogue character.
